About Us
Hi, I'm Katie and thank you for visiting here! My husband Rob and I work together on the business side and I grow the plants. We officially launched in May of 2022 and are happy to continue growing.
Previous to growing microgreens, I spent a lot of time working with plants. In college I interned with Dow AgroSciences and I was also a research assistant in MSU's entomology department. I helped with insecticide and herbicide spray trials on corn, soybean, potato and onion crops. After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Chemistry, my husband and I moved to California where he was stationed. I spent a year in California testing for plant viruses at a wholesale flower nursery. After he was reassigned to a new base, I started working at a plant nursery in North Carolina, where I worked with a team of people to care for and sell all types of plants. All of my experiences came together to grow microgreens and other foods for our family and yours.
I started growing our own garden in 2017 and learned what it took to grow food ourselves. When I was pregnant with our oldest daughter, I decided to stop using pesticides and herbicides and we haven't gone back. I started researching healthier methods for growing, doing my own composting, using less sprays in general and engaging beneficial insects and our pollinators while promoting biodiversity and healthy soil. There is of course still a lot to learn, but I continue to work towards eating and growing this way.
We moved into a new-to-us house in 2022 and I knew I wouldn't be able to start a whole garden in our yard the first year. This is how we came across the idea of growing microgreens. I gave microgreens a try and we love growing them. It's nice to have fresh greens year-round and we truly miss them when we don't have them in the fridge.
My vision and future ventures most definitely include a large garden. I am looking forward to trying out all sorts of greens outdoors, cut flowers, fruits and vegetables. Just an aspiring farmer at heart! Thanks for joining us on this journey to grow healthy food.
Thanks for your support and I hope you see the value in knowing where your food comes from, saving thousands of transportation miles when you buy locally, and knowing who grows it for you!
